Evelyn Grainger-Smith
Evelyn is a qualified pharmacist, with over forty years experience of working
within the community. Following training at Kings College, London, retail
practice as pharmacist/ manager was in the London and Greater London area;
then working for five years in Sydney, Brisbane, and country areas of Australia.
After returning to UK, Evelyn worked for nearly five years in hospital pharmacy,
before returning to retail work in Northfleet, Gravesend and Rochester, with
some experience working in prison pharmacy locally, and then spending nearly
twenty years as pharmacist manager ar Ryders Chemists in High Street, Rochester.
In addition, Evelyn has an Oxford degree in theology, which has been invaluable
for work within the Methodist Church, in the wider community, and with those
of other faiths. She is a trained counsellor, and has over thirty five years
experience of pastoral work, teaching, preaching, leading services and discussion
groups, and organising local and national conferences.
Evelyn has served on a number of Methodist committees, as well as being an
elected member of the Methodist District Synod. For the past seven years,
prior to retiring in March this year, she was on the staff of Kent Industrial
Mission as a Workplace Chaplain, and privileged to be part of the chaplaincy
team to Medway Council. As a member of MIBIC (Methodists in Business, Industry
and Commerce), Evelyn has also served on the Methodist Church Chaplains'
Council.
It has been a worthwhile and fulfilling experience to be involved with Medway
Inter Faith Action as Treasurer and a member of the Executive Committee to
work with the various faiths in Medway in social, cultural and educational
events, in order to bring community cohesion and understanding.
Evelyn is married to a fellow pharmacist, and they have a daughter who is
a RE Teacher, and a son, who is a Church of England priest. There are four
grandchildren.
